Akwa Ibom State

His Excellency, Obong (Barr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio was sworn in on May 29, 2007 for a four year term as the 3rd civilian governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Having run on the platform of the People Democratic Party of Nigeria (PDP) Governor Godswill Akpabio is moved by an overwhelming people's mandate and a vision which subsequently developed into a 9-point agenda to re-brand and re-position Akwa Ibom State in the Nigerian configuration through programmes such as industrialisation, poverty reduction, Community entrepreneurship, food security among others.
In just a year a web of modern road network was deployed across all 31 local government areas of the state for greater accessibility. Talking of accessibility, the state now holds world class events as was witnessed with hosting of Africa's biggest political party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), on October 23 - 25, 2008, a number of other events have gracefully taken place in the state.
Indeed, numerous projects rolled out by Governor Akpabio's pragmatic leadership covers all 31 local governments of the state to the extent that the citizenry has variously described his Excellency as a "Digital Governor", a "Promise Keeper", "Amiable Governor", "indefatigable Governor" and "God's will for Akwa Ibom State."
The focus is industrialisation and to do that His Excellency has placed the state's resources in the right baskets, the baskets of air transport, sea port, tourism, skills acquistion, education, and agriculture among others. Akwa Ibom State of today has become a state with limitless opportunities.
With so many projects delivered, over 300 of them, and a lot still in the works Akwa Ibom State now stands out as a foremost state in the Niger Delta, not embroiled in tribal wars, millitancy, or crime. The best is yet to come as investments are flooding the state and new opportunities get unveiled. This is indeed a repositioned and re-branded Akwa Ibom State.
