The Summit
In December 2008, Nigeria's South-South Governors Forum expressed concern over the region's dwindling economy despite enormous endowment for global economic competitiveness. In response, the Governors constituted a 24-man committee called "South-South Economic Summit Committee", trusted with:
- Developing sectoral Road-maps to guide the South-South Governors for the Socio-economic development of the region through integration and synergistic benefit;
- Advising on a short, medium and long term socio-economic direction for the region;
- Highlighting and advising on priority areas and projects;
- Suggesting and advising on implementation of strategies to execute priority projects;
- Advising and suggesting the form of institutional arrangements required to support the form of institutional arrangements required to support the overall objective;
For the purpose of harnessing a repository of ideas and economic awakening of the region, the first South-South Economic Summit was organized and attracted speakers with expert knowledge from within and outside the country.
The 2nd South-South Economic Summit scheduled to take place in Asaba, Delta State from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th November 2011 with the theme, "Integrating the South-South for Sustainable Development" will focus on infrastructural Development, Agriculture, Environment, Oil and Gas, Education, Manpower and Human Capacity Development and Tourism.
The Summit is being organized by BRACED Commission.
